Trump's EPA embraces an odd argument against fuel economy: It will kill people
XThe Trump administration is embracing a curious — and some would say dated — argument as it builds its case to weaken federal rules championed by California that require cars and SUVs to average 55 miles per gallon by 2025. It is warning that the fuel-efficiency targets, seen by most as key to...

"That will not happen," the Senate leader said.
"There is an overwhelming majority on a bipartisan basis not interested in changing the way the Senate operates on the legislative calendar" on legislation, McConnell said during a weekly press conference.
Of course, that didn't stop him from using the "nuclear" option regarding the Supreme Court confirmation process.-

No one has done more in recent years to undermine the functioning of U.S. government.
"He has frequently shifted his views to suit the needs of the moment. But in this case McConnell was correct in 2013, and what he just did this week was even more ruinous than what he accused the Democrats of doing then."

Twenty-seven percent of Americans view U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell favorably and 44% unfavorably, while Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer receives 31% favorable and 36% unfavorable ratings.
These data, collected in an April 5-9 Gallup poll, come as Congress negotiates terms of a spending bill to avoid a government shutdown. This will be one of the first major challenges for the duo; while McConnell has led Republicans in the chamber for a decade, Schumer became leader of the Democratic minority in January -- though he has been a U.S. senator from New York since 1999.
